New Options for Children and Adults with Nearsightedness: A great concern for parents of
nearsighted children is the constant
increase in their child’s nearsighted
prescription. Even adults become
concerned when they find their
prescription has changed. However,
with the advent of corneal reshaping
therapy the increase or change in
prescription may become a thing of
the past.
Corneal reshaping therapy also
called Orthokeratology involves
sleeping overnight in a uniquely
designed gas permeable contact lens
shaped retainer. When removed in the
morning the cornea is reshaped as if
LASIK surgery had been performed.
In fact, a topographical map of the
cornea after LASIK surgery resembles
an eye that has undergone corneal
reshaping therapy.
Vision will be corrected to 20/20
during all waking hours as long as
you continue wearing the contact lens
shaped retainer to bed each night.
However, depending on the amount
of your nearsighted prescription you
may wear the retainer only a few times
during the week.............Read more
Building Character - One Child at a Time: With so many after-school
programs, it’s hard to find one that
really lives up to the goals it sets forth.
Equally difficult, finding a program
that is interested in improving the
character and intellect of children.
That’s where the Character Center
comes into play. The Character
Center, which opened in August 2006,
creatively fills that gap between the
time the bell rings to let school out and
the time parents actually
get off work to pick up
their children. This afterschool
program is located
in Tallahassee, Fla. and run
by Zachery Richardson,
executive director.
"It's an after-school
program designed to meet
the needs of students during
their out-of-school time
with homework assistance,
character education and life
skills," Richardson said as
he described the Character
Center.
Regarding the inception
for his vision, Richardson,
36, said that it’s "deeper
than just the average story,
it’s personal."............Read more
 It’s About Control: try-outs, practices,
contacting scouts
and interviews,
it was a pleasure
to have been able
to get in contact
and speak with the
busy, 22- year old,
Houston, Texas
native Brashaad
Mayweather.
My experience
in following the
young athlete and
Senior Florida A
& M student began
in February of this
year when I was
carousing through
Bill’s Bookstore,
a local on-campus
bookstore at
Florida State
University in
Tallahassee, Fla.
The book
caught my eye
with the title,
Control or Be
Controlled, not to mention the
appealing cover photo, which ais also
uniquely reflected on the back cover
of the book as well. Curious about the
title of the book, I decided to buy it
and read it.
Mayweather released Control or
Be Controlled on February 13, 2008
in Tallahassee, FL and nationally
on February 15, 2008. When I first
picked up the book for pleasure
reading, I assumed that the book was
an autobiography of the young athlete
and student’s life.
After discussing the book with
him, he corrected me in stating that,
“The most common misconception
about the book is that it is a story...........Read more
Examine Yourself and Take Action: I am reminded of a quote that states- "The unexamined life is not worth living." When we fail to examine our lives we have the potential to become victims, which is we blame others for who we are, where we are in life and what we have become. The victim mentality provides an excuse for lack of accountability and responsibility. If you want things to change in your life then you must change. Sometimes change is painful but necessary. To accomplish your goals you may have to change some things like relationships, friends, attitudes and mindset. Examine your life today. What are your goals? What is your plan to achieve your goals? What are you doing each day to accomplish your goals? If you are tired of where you are and want to get different results you must begin to do things differently. Another quote states “A goal without a plan is just a wish." Stop wishing and start accomplishing today by taking action. Write your goals on paper. Develop a plan of action and..............Read more
